COMMENCEMENT EVENTS

Ottawa University invites and encourages family and friends to attend and participate in celebrating our graduates annually at one of our commencement ceremonies. The commencement season is filled with hope and purpose as our graduates achieve a meaningful milestone and pursue new career opportunities. We recognize and applaud our graduates and their respective families during graduation ceremonies conducted at each campus.
 

All candidates for graduation must complete an Application for Graduation at least 90 days prior to the ceremony date. Please request an Application for Graduation from your academic advisor.

For our residential campus in Ottawa, KS, please note that the doors to the Fredrikson Chapel will be opened for seating 1 hour prior to the ceremony start time. Due to the number of graduates and attendees, each graduate is given a predetermined number of tickets to distribute to family and friends. While there is limited seating available within the Fredrikson Chapel, the ceremony will be available via livestream.

  • CAP AND GOWN: Candidates for graduation can pick up their cap and gown at the Braves Fan Shop (located in Gangwish Library). We highly recommend that the cap and gown be picked up in advance to allow the gown to be hung or steamed to remove wrinkles in advance of the ceremony.

  • PHOTOS: A photo will be for sale of the graduates as they accept their diploma on stage through Kramer Photography. Photos from the May 7, 2022 ceremonies are available for viewing and purchase. When photos are ready, they will be available at this link.

  • RECORDING: Baseball and Softball Ceremony - May 2, 2022
    Due to our baseball and softball teams competing in the national playoffs and therefore possibly missing the 2022 Commencement ceremony, a short ceremony was held to honor and congratulate them with their peers. Watch it here.

  • Graduates will line-up for Commencement in Gangwish Library.
    • Graduates are required to arrive at the designated location by 9:00 a.m. for the ceremony.
       
  • Graduates and their families will find more information in the Ottawa (KS) Campus in the Commencement Booklet, which will be made available closer to the ceremony date.
     
  • REHEARSAL: In lieu of an on-campus rehearsal, the following videos have been created for graduates to know what to expect as they walk in the ceremony.

HELPFUL INFORMATION

DOORS OPEN

The O'Dell Center (Faith Arena) gates will open at 9:30 a.m., 1 hour prior to the start of the ceremony for friends and family to enter and find seating prior to the start of the event.

TICKETS

Tickets are NOT required to attend the Commencement ceremony at O'Dell Center (Faith Arena).

PARKING

Ample parking is available around campus and the stadium. Click here to see a map that shows parking throughout the campus.

MASKING

At this time, masks are NOT required on the OUAZ campus. Those feeling more comfortable attending the outdoor ceremony in a mask, are welcome to do so at their own discretion.
