Academic Programs Advisory Board

The primary objective of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) is to support ISTI in the development and revision of its academic programs. The IAB leverages its industry-specific knowledge and expertise to guide the curriculum development process, ensuring that all programs align with industry standards and equip students with the necessary skills for a rewarding career in Engineering, Management Information Systems, and Computer Science Technology. The IAB convenes biannually with the ISTI to review industry trends and assess the effectiveness of the programs. Moreover, the members offer valuable feedback on senior projects, including recommendations on product enhancements, technological advancements, engineering initiatives, and technology distribution strategies within the industry.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

OU ISTI & Schools Districts Partnership Tech-Events

The technology and engineering students of the Information Science & Technology Institute (ISTI) programs partner with high school students whose concentrations are in engineering, computer science, and technology to carry out activities at the academic level. These educational activities are based on programming learning, UI/UX design, innovative technologies, and emerging technologies, with fun and impressive results at the academic level.

OU STEAM Camp Program

Attendees from local school districts (middle and high school students) participated and learned STEAM aspects, such as how to code, design robots and troubleshoot problems. Participants work with technology and engineering students as STEAM advisors and instructors to complete projects designed for this camp.

Career Outlook

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of computer and information systems managers to grow 10 percent through 2029, which is faster than the average for all occupations. New applications of technology in the workplace will continue to drive demand for workers, fueling the need for more managers. Most computer and information systems managers work full time. If problems arise, managers may need to work more than 40 hours a week to come up with solutions.
  • The median annual wage for computer and information systems managers was $146,360 in May 2019. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount, and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $87,480, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $208,000.
