BA - Ottawa University
Instructor Darvelle Hutchins grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and completed his undergraduate degree in Communication Studies in Leadership at Ottawa University-Brookfield. While earning his undergraduate degree, he spent the majority of his career in the financial services industry at Waukesha State Bank, U.S. Bank, and PNC Bank starting as a Personal Banker and worked his way to Senior Financial Sales Consultant. After completing undergraduate studies in Wisconsin, Mr. Hutchins pursued a Master of Business Administration degree at Ottawa University. Upon completion of his MBA degree, he decided to make a career change to pursue his interest in the field of Human Resources at Quad/Graphics where he worked as HR Generalist. Having spent nearly a decade as a practitioner, Mr. Hutchins sought to transfer his knowledge by applying to an Adjunct role at Waukesha County Technical College where he taught Oral/Interpersonal Communication. Soon after entering the academy, Mr. Hutchins felt deeply burdened and a call to explore the communicative challenges that manifest in organizing. He then returned to graduate school at Marquette University where he earned a MA degree in Communication. More recently, Mr. Hutchins is a doctoral student at the University of Missouri where he studies Organizational Communication. His research explores issues related to diversity, race, and stigmatized identities in organized settings. He has taught with Ottawa University since 2017 and enjoys working with students to explore and unearth a variety of communicative challenges so that they are well equipped to tackle immediate and future organizational needs. He believes that by helping students discover their career interests and purpose is key to living a life of significance.
