Dr. Gayani Balasuriya is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Ottawa University, Kansas, and previously served as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at Texas Tech University. Her research focuses on Primal-Dual Weak Galerkin Finite Element Methods, biomathematics, and graph theory.
Born and raised in Sri Lanka, a country known for its lush landscapes, rich culture, and warm communities, Dr. Balasuriya is passionate about making mathematics engaging and accessible. She delights in helping students discover the beauty and creativity within the subject.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys playing chess, drawing, knitting, and capturing the world through photography.
She earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, in 2022; M.S. in Mathematics from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, in 2019; and B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, in 2016.
