Ottawa University in Kansas City

Getting your degree as an adult is a big deal. Ottawa University knows that, which is why we center our programs around YOU. We know that you’re footing the bill and doing the hard work while also maintaining a busy work and life schedule. To get the most out of your investment of time and money, you want a school with a long history and proven track record.

Ottawa University was established in 1865 and was one of the first to embrace a growing demand for programs specifically tailored to the needs and learning styles of adult students. A pioneer in adult education in the United States, OU opened its first adult campus in Kansas City in 1974. Today, Ottawa University is conveniently located in Overland Park, Kansas, and is easily accessible from Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas. From our founding, we have offered adult learners the hallmarks of a quality higher education – flexibility, excellence, affordability, a wide range of programs, and comprehensive support – all with a liberal arts foundation and Christian heritage. These values are evident in the school’s Mission Statement and Vision Statement.

Mission Statement

Building on its foundation as a Christ-inspired community of grace and open inquiry, Ottawa University prepares professional and liberal arts graduates for lifetimes of personal significance, vocational fulfillment, and service to God and humanity.

Vision Statement

By 2020, Ottawa University will be positioned as a distinctive and rapidly expanding institution known for its innovative educational models, exceptional value, and special ability to prepare diverse student populations for lifetimes of enlightened faith, exemplary service, inspired leadership, and personal significance.

The value of an Ottawa University education is evident in these other hallmarks, as well.

Excellence – University Accreditation

Since 1914, Ottawa University has been a continually accredited university by The Higher Learning Commission (hlcommission.org), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. 100% of Ottawa University’s 35+ adult on-ground and/or online degree programs are accredited by the Commission. University accreditation is one of the key criteria for selecting a credible institution of higher learning.

In addition, faculty members are student-centered subject experts with real-world experience who facilitate your education. They will make you earn your degree, and when you are finished, you will have a diploma that is valued in the workplace. Brent earned both his BA and MA in HR from Ottawa University: “I happened to work at a local university as well at the time, and although my education would have been a free benefit for me where I worked, I still preferred to study at Ottawa because of the high quality of the education. Sorry to disappoint some folks, but this is not a diploma mill; you will work hard for the degree! Worth the money and time for a great education."

Excellence is also a hallmark of the online degree programs offered at Ottawa University in Kansas City. Rather than simply adapting face-to-face classes and offering them online, Ottawa University utilizes expert instructional designers who work with faculty to create customized online courses that offer diversity in how material is presented and assessed. This approach maximizes online learning success, as well as student engagement.

Flexibility

One of the biggest perks of Ottawa University in Kansas City is the opportunity to “do education” your way. Prefer face-to-face learning? You can complete most degrees in the classroom. Prefer distance learning? You can earn most degrees fully online. If a bit of both is best for you, we’ve got you covered.

The point is, you have choices at Ottawa University to accomplish your degree goals based on your unique needs. Our face-to-face courses are offered in the evening to better fit your schedule, and both our on-ground and online degree programs are offered in 8-week terms, with six terms per year. Want to fast-track? You can take multiple courses at the same time. Want to slow it down? You can take one course per term. Our 8-week terms allow you to go to school year-round or take a term off any time you need. You can even take a face-to-face course and an online course at the same time. You decide what works best for you.

Wide Range of Programs

OU offers a wide range of programs that are relevant in today’s ever-changing career landscape. You can choose from 22 in-demand undergraduate degree programs, ranging from Accounting, Human Services, Nursing, and Health Care Management to Business Administration, Education, and Addiction Counseling. If you are in pursuit of a graduate degree, OU offers 13 programs, including MBA, Executive MBA, MA in Human Resources, MA in Education – Educational Leadership, Master of Science in Nursing, and more.

All of Ottawa University’s degree programs are rooted in the liberal arts, which provides growth for the total person and equips you to make a lifelong impact in the communities where you live and work. For many students, one of the school’s greatest benefits is its atmosphere of free and open inquiry into all aspects of knowledge, with an emphasis on teaching you HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Employers are looking for such critical thinking skills in a marketplace that is changing at warp speed.
