Interested in Becoming an RA?

Resident Assistants (RA) are responsible in assisting in the planning and operation of the residence halls of OUAZ. The Resident Assistant is a vital part of the Office of Student Affairs and considered to be a major leadership position. The resident assistant is a role model and has an immense impact on the collegiate experience of residential students. As a member of the Residential Life team, the RA position focuses on student interaction, community development, academic enrichments, communication, administrative management, truth, and service of the residential communities at OUAZ.

If you are interested in becoming a Resident Assistant, the Office of Student Affairs typically hires in the Spring semester from January to April each year. Be on the lookout for hiring information for the following year.

Hiring Process:

  • Step 1: Attend Information Sessions
  • Step 2: Apply: January – Mid-February
  • Step 3: Attend Group Interviews
  • Step 4: Individual Interviews
  • Step 5: Offer Letters Sent Out

Qualifications

  • Must have at least one (1) academic year (i.e., two academic semesters) of previous university-sponsored housing experience at OUAZ. A transfer student must have lived in OUAZ university-sponsored housing for at least one (1) academic semester and have lived in university-sponsored housing at a previous college/university (i.e., verification is required when lived in a previous college/university). Note: the current semester counts as one semester, (i.e., first-year students are eligible if they live in university-sponsored housing for the fall and spring semesters and want to apply for the following academic year). 
  • Achieved sophomore standing or above by the beginning of the academic year in which they serve as an RA.
  • Enrolled as a full-time OUAZ student (12 or more credits).  
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher at the time of the application and maintain during his/her term of service as a Resident Assistant. Resident Assistant applicants with a lower GPA may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Once employment has begun, all Resident Assistants are expected to remain in good academic standing with OUAZ. Resident Assistants who fall below a 2.50 GPA for two consecutive semesters may be subject to job dismissal for academic reasons. 
  • Must be available for employment for one (1) academic year (i.e., two semesters) upon initial hiring.
  • On or off-campus employment must be approved by the Director of Student Affairs. If employment is approved, the employment must not interfere with the Resident Assistant responsibilities.  
  • Must have limited extra-curricular activities to avoid a conflict of responsibilities.
  • Must be in good standing (i.e., academic/conduct) with OUAZ.
  • Must be in good standing (i.e., Spirit Life, PGDs, BCLs) with OUAZ.
  • Must participate in staff training programs several days prior to the start of fall and spring semester classes.
  • Continued employment as a Resident Assistant is contingent upon a review of performance.
    1. Resident Assistants are appointed for one (1) academic year.  Reappointment for an additional year(s) is contingent upon job performance and reapplication process.
    2. Failure to meet job requirements or conditions of appointment may result in appointment termination. See the minimum staff discipline standards.
